AI Mutual Aid Index (AIMAI)

Interactive AIMAI
Country Data Summaries

AIMAI encourages all to make AI a globally shared common resource. Orange color countries are the top 15 of the most strongest countries in AI in the world (i.e. the concentration) and corresponding negative AIMAI values with green bars reflect the degree of luck of efforts in spreading AI as common shared resource globally.

Please see below for more detailed explanation of the AIMAI and the graph.
DISCLAIMER: At present, AIMAI data is limited to 78 countries and are based on research via secondary sources. The work on increasing the number of countries and primary data collection is in progress

AI Mutual Aid Index (AIMAI)

Most global AI indices focus on measuring how strong or advanced a country’s AI capabilities are. They show who is ahead in the race — but not who is helping others to move forward.

The AI Mutual Aid Index (AIMAI) takes a different approach. It prioritizes the creation of shared global resources, highlighting countries that empower others rather than concentrating power. Instead of ranking winners and losers, AIMAI encourages solidarity, cooperation, and balance — ensuring that AI becomes a force for collective progress.

AI must not remain a privilege for a few. It should be cultivated as a universal good through coordinated global effort.

The AI Divide

AI capabilities are concentrated in a few countries.

The majority of nations remain dependent, fragile, or excluded.

This risks amplifying problems with safety of AI on a global scale.

The AIMAI Framework

Measures each country across three dimensions:

Capability – strength of its AI ecosystem.

Solidarity – willingness to share knowledge, access, and opportunities.

Burden – fragility, risks, or challenges that weigh down participation.

The Study

Covers ~80 countries.

Reveals stark contrasts: some nations are strong and needs to be supportive of global equitable development of AI, while many carry heavy burdens or show little solidarity.

Scores & Meaning

High AIMAI scoresBridgers: capability + solidarity outweigh burdens; help close the divide.

Low or negative AIMAI scoresDividers: concentrated power, low solidarity, or heavy burdens; risk widening the gap.
